An informal Questions and Answers with the 2019 Auckland Studio Potters’ selector and guest artist Jim Cooper and Cat Fooks.

Cat Fooks is a practicing artist based in Auckland. Her most recent exhibition, Sprung from the Soil, comprised of paintings and three dimensional sculptural forms, at Anna Miles Gallery, concluded in August 2019. Fooks was a finalist in the 2019 National Contemporary Art Award, and also manages Front of House at the Pah Homestead, Wallace Arts Centre.

Jim Cooper is a Dunedin based artist. His most recent exhibition, Yea Well, Now Since Then: Jim Cooper, curated by Richard Fahey, was the artist’s response to ‘architectural ornamentation’ through figurative sculpture in clay. With a practice of more than two decades,  Cooper was the Supreme Winner of the Norsewear Art Award in 2006, the Premier Award winner in the 2009 and 2012 Portage Ceramic Awards, and has been the recipient of numerous residencies, with his works represented in collections both within New Zealand and internationally.
