About the musicians
KRISTIN DARRAGH – mezzo soprano
New Zealand-born mezzo soprano Kristin Darragh has performed many leading roles on international opera stages as well as singing with NZ Opera, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra. Her voice has been described as one of “breathtakingly beautiful depth and formidable penetrating power”.
MARTIN SNELL – bass
Born in Dunedin and winner of the 1993 Mobil Song Quest, Martin Snell gained his first professional stage experience at the International Opera Studio Zurich and now works as a freelance performer based in Lucerne, Switzerland. He has been engaged in many opera productions throughout Europe and beyond, including the Bayerische Staatsoper and Glyndebourne.
ROSEMARY BARNES – piano
Rosemary studied at the Royal Academy of Music and spent many years with the English National Opera. As one of New Zealand’s most well-known collaborative pianists she has performed with Dame Kiri Te Kanawa, Sir Donald McIntyre, Pene and Amitai Pati, and many others. In 2000, Rosemary was awarded an MNZM for services to music.
